I had such a lovely time with Katie and her family as their Portland family photographer at the Columbia River Gorge! The weather was perfect – sunshine, blue skies, and puffy clouds. I was thrilled when Katie reached out to me because the idea of a relaxed and laid-back session experience is something I truly love. She wanted to have some photos captured with her baby and her husband, so we met at the Columbia River Gorge for the session.
Katie is a breastfeeding mom, and she wanted a breastfeeding photo session that was as natural-looking as possible. I loved that idea because it’s important for women to feel comfortable breastfeeding anywhere and channel their connection to their children. I want to be able to capture those moments for moms as those moments are so meaningful and important.
The Columbia River Gorge is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. It’s beautiful in all seasons and all kinds of light. We were lucky enough to have the entire place almost entirely to ourselves. I loved how Katie’s family interacted with each other; it was so fun to capture some of their sweet moments together!
As a Portland family photographer, I knew that their session at the Columbia River Gorge would be special – it was at Gorge, after all. But what I didn’t expect was how much of an impact the location would have on their photos. The gorgeous scenery added so much to their memories, and the way it reflected off their faces made everything feel so real.
The weather was perfect for hiking around, too: clear skies, not too hot or too cold, just right! We had a great time hiking around and exploring all of the beautiful spots in the Columbia River Gorge. It was hard to narrow down my favorite photos from this session. I am looking forward to working with Katie again and capturing more photos of her family!
I wanted to create a relaxed and natural session that captured the essence of their relationship. So I decided to let them play in nature as much as possible, with just minimal direction from me. And when they were ready for me to step in and give some direction, we worked on having them pose together in fun ways that showed their playful side.
